Story

What started as a simple kitchen upgrade of the investment property for a lovely retired couple became an unforgettably personal experience, with the entire team of designers, consultants and contractors banding together when the client received a shock diagnosis, and ultimately lost his battle with cancer during the short build. The project, Kenneth, has been named in his memory.

In their retirement, the owners had spent long stints in the house to carefully and lovingly upgrade and renovate the home as best they could, however the poorly constructed rear lean-to which housed the kitchen, required more than a lick of paint to fix.

Being an investment property, the client brief was centered around a few key critera – value, timing and providing a simple, timeless result that wouldn’t polarize potential tenants.

The design made the most of the existing footprint to replan the kitchen in a restrained and robust palate, increase storage to the entire home, and provide a better connection to the rest of the house, and to the rear garden courtyard.

Working closely with the owners, tenants and builder, we were able assist in preparing a streamline programme to ensure time that the property was not bringing in income was minimised.
